Following the success of the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Island Donation Drive, residents and visitors are encouraged to continue supporting our neighbor islands by coming together to help the Kauaʻi community, which was devastated by Hurricane Lowell. The Kōkua Kauaʻi Donation Drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27, 2026, in Kahului, the County of Maui Office of the Mayor announced.

“Disasters can come at any time, and when our neighbors need help, we show up for one another,” Mayor Richard Bissen said. “Kauaʻi stood with Maui in our time of need, and now it is our turn to stand with Kauaʻi. The timing of these recent disasters does not lessen our responsibility to care for one another. This is another opportunity for our Maui community to come together, share what we can and send our aloha across the ocean channel to our neighbors on Kauaʻi.”

The Kōkua Kauaʻi Donation Drive will be held in the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center parking lot near the former Sears location, 275 W. Kaʻahumanu Ave.

Specific donation items are being requested and will be distributed by nonprofit Hawaiʻi Food Bank Kauaʻi to communities on Kauaʻi impacted by the recent storm.

Nonperishable foods and other essentials being requested are as follows (only new items; perishable foods and clothing cannot be accepted):

Nonperishable foods:

• Bottled water
• Rice
• Canned foods, including canned meats (tuna, chicken, Spam, Vienna sausage, corned beef); canned meals (chili, stew, pasta); canned fruits; canned vegetables
• Saimin and other instant noodles
• Peanut butter, crackers and other packaged snacks
• Cereal and oatmeal
• Meal-replacement drinks (Ensure, protein drinks)
• Shelf-stable milk

Other essentials:

• Baby food and formula
• Baby supplies (diapers, wipes)
• Pet food, bedding and supplies
• Toiletries and personal hygiene products
• Tarps
• Chainsaw chains in all sizes
• Batteries
• Solar/battery powered lights
• Cell phone charging cords and power banks

Donated items will be shipped by container with the support of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
